In early-January of 2020, with the outbreak of CoVID-19, Rain8's China management began carefully observing and tabulating the numbers, day-by-day that were first coming out of Wuhan and later coming out of all of China.
By early February we concluded that there was a new epidemic developing in China. We were concerned that this supposed epidemic would develop into a pandemic.
Wuhan is not exactly an international travel hub. But travelers from and to Wuhan tend to stay in the regions upon arrival.
By late February, we suspected that the disease would spread, and we began quiet outreach to suppliers of personal protective equipment (PPE) that could be of assistance to Western countries in managing the expected pandemic.
By the end of March 2020, Rain8 had developed relations with about 50 suppliers of PPE. These 50 suppliers was enough for us to develop a few reasonable supply chains.
We recognized at this time that 50 suppliers, while significant, would not be enough to properly serve the market.
Need for 300 Suppliers
Rain8's Chinese management team recommended that to serve Western markets well, we would need around 300 suppliers of PPE. According to Rain8's VP of Operations, Kang Li, "We need a larger operational base in order to support client needs."
Rain8's management team's argument was that around 300 suppliers would give Rain8 considerable market power, the ability to negotiate best prices for Rain8's clients, and the ability to make more attractive financial arrangements for Rain8's clients.
Over 1500 Product Lines
Following the guidance of Rain8's Chinese team, we have now established relations with over 300 supplier, bringing us more than 1500 products lines.
Rain8 believes this new, enhanced position gives Rain8 a much better ability to meet client's needs.
